Details
What is coltsfoot?
Coltsfoot, originally from Eurasia, is found in abundance in Québec. Its flower buds are the interesting part: they make excellent teas and are useful for seasoning food.
How do you use coltsfoot?
As an infusion, alone or with other spring plants, for a calming moment. Coltsfoot can also be used as a decoction to soothe the airways and ease cold symptoms. Traditionally it is used as an expectorant and for soothing the throat and lungs.
Son milieu naturel
Coltsfoot is a perennial, sometimes mistaken for dandelion because of its shape and colour. This early spring herb is probably the first to flower in the season, which makes it important food for bees.
It is treated as a weed that can affect crops such as soy, cereals, alfalfa and corn. It grows on rough, damp, clay ground, along roadsides, in ditches and the like.
